15 million UK users shopped on TEMU

Temu, the Chinese shopping app, has exploded in popularity with over half a billion downloads worldwide. With the cost of living still high, its rock-bottom prices have enticed nine million UK users to download and shop on its app.

Channel 4 Dispatches investigates whether these bargain prices are too good to be true, uncovering evidence that some products on its website are made with high levels of harmful materials, with other items like climbing safety equipment and even electrical tools fraudulently advertised as holding recognised safety certificates.

Journalist Ellie Flynn travels across the UK to meet Temu shoppers and along the way uncovers evidence that suggests some customers have been offered financial settlements in exchange for silence when their products proved dangerous.

“Temu is the most downloaded shopping app in the UK, it's hugely popular - and that's no surprise because it's so, so cheap. I wanted to find out whether those low prices come at another cost, so I put Temu and some of its products to the test to find out whether there's any risk to shoppers using the platform.”
